About the brand

RAINS is a Danish outerwear lifestyle brand founded in 2012 by Daniel Brix Hesselager and Philip Lotko, who met while studying at Denmark's TEKO Design School. Born from Denmark's notoriously rainy climate—with an average of 170-200 rainy days annually—the brand set out to reinterpret the traditional rubber raincoat with a contemporary, fashion-forward approach. RAINS combines Scandinavian minimalism with functional design, creating waterproof, windproof, and lightweight pieces that prove wet weather doesn't compromise personal style. The brand's signature coated waterproof fabric and clean-lined silhouettes have garnered a cult following among fashion insiders and everyday consumers alike. What began as a focus on rainwear has evolved into a comprehensive lifestyle brand encompassing backpacks, accessories, and thermal wear. RAINS' unisex collections blend conceptual-meets-functional design with strong urban inspiration, delivering neo-Scandinavian aesthetics to consumers across four continents while maintaining ethical manufacturing standards.

New York Magazine

Danish brand Rains has become ubiquitous on water-slicked city streets in recent years, and for good reason. It makes some of the most aesthetically pleasing raincoats around, and they're more affordable than Stutterheim's, despite being similarly waterproof. Having worn both, I've found that Rains jackets are far thinner and swishier in fit.

Quality rain jacket, great length & colour. Value for money too.

For a rain jacket that combines fashion and heavy-duty function, Rains is the way to go. The price point is amazing, as well as the style. They have options with a cinched waist, so that way it's not just oversized, but gives your figure a little cinching at the waist to see your silhouette.

Rains strikes the perfect balance between function and fashion. I love how their pieces are genuinely waterproof without sacrificing style. Everything has that clean, minimal Scandinavian aesthetic that just works with any outfit. The quality is solid, and the designs feel thoughtfully made for real weather, not just looks.

When it comes to wet-weather gear, Scandinavian brand Rains knows what it's doing (the clue is in the name). This is one of the brands I reach for whenever the weather takes a turn; its long jacket has seen me through countless soggy commutes, playground trips and walks in the woods. After a muddy walk, it's happily machine-washable – despite having been washed several times over the years, mine is still going strong.

Rains makes some of the best staple rain jackets out there — clean lines, minimal branding, and just the right mix of function and style. They hold up well in real weather without sacrificing aesthetics... Beyond the outerwear, their gym bags are surprisingly durable and look way more refined than your average duffel. BUT - no pockets in the gym bags docks points for lack of function.

The fabric is also really smooth and feel really durable...it is sort of lightly waterproof i guess it'll do fine sort of in light rain obviously if it's pouring outside you don't want to have this on...this bag does start to get a bit uncomfortable though for me when it goes beyond 5 to seven kilos. um that's when I really notice that you know the straps are digging in so I wouldn't stuff the bag too heavily.

I have a RAINS raincoat and backpack that keeps me perfectly dry through Amsterdam fall/winter/spring. That being said, I also have a Patagonia raincoat that I use for hiking because it works better for the mobility you need while hiking. I think it depends on where you will be wearing your raincoat the most.

Critiques in the reviews note heat buildup and low breathability, occasional leakage at shoulder seams or in heavy downpours, white “blooming” or scuffing on certain finishes, and bag usability gaps like few pockets or durability issues.

I have 3 bags from Rains and I regret every single one of them, tbh. Mostly because the material they use is EXTREMELY weak to abrasion. I have marks and cuts on my backpacks that I don't even know where they came from.

This bag has zero internal organisation also why they never show an internal picture.

I've seen some rains in person, strike me a brand that takes great photos of their bags but fails to deliver on the photos.
