About the brand

Naadam is a direct-to-consumer sustainable luxury brand founded in 2013 by college friends Matthew Scanlan and Diederik Rijsemus. The brand's origin story began when the founders accidentally found themselves living with nomadic herders in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, where they witnessed how traditional cashmere traders fixed prices and kept profits from herders. This experience inspired them to create a company that could cut out middlemen, pay herders fairly, and offer luxury cashmere at accessible prices. The brand focuses on democratizing cashmere by sourcing directly from Mongolian nomadic herders, ensuring ethical practices, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. Naadam is known for producing high-quality, durable cashmere pieces including their signature sweaters, emphasizing transparency and timeless design. Their mission centers on creating closet staples from premium, sustainable materials while supporting partner communities, ultimately connecting consumers and creators of the world's finest cashmere through a modern, ethical approach to luxury fashion.

What people are saying

Travel + Leisure

A medium weight that isn't too thin or too thick, it's the sweater even the extra discerning Goldilocks would have settled on. While the price has come up a bit since it debuted at just $75, it's still a steal, and it will never go out of style.

In general, I've found all of their sweaters and joggers run true to size. And in terms of fit, everything is cut PERFECTLY... They're beyond flattering, and seem to be perfectly tailored—no boxiness, or weird seams.

My NAADAM cashmere pieces are so comfortable that I've practically lived in them while traveling, and they still look good as new. Promises of little pilling seem to be true.

Everlane vs. NAADAM vs. Offbeat1: Comparing Cashmere Sweaters

Naadam's cashmere is slightly thicker than Everlane's, and I can feel the warmth difference.

Who What Wear

Naadam has been one of my go-to sweater brands for a while now because the styles are classic and versatile but always have a little something *extra* to them.

The style is timeless, and the design and fabric is of such high quality that I can wear it as many times as I want.

I own cashmere from Naadam, Quince (both recent), and Everlane (2019). The Everlane ones are the best by far but their prices have gotten so jacked that I can't say I'd recommend them now... Naadam also runs smaller but it's slightly better than Quince regarding the pilling.

I've been researching this a lot recently, actually. The tldr is that any cashmere under like $200 isn't really going to be the best quality... I know Wirecutter recommends Nadaam and I think they'll be fine for a while. But at that price and quality, you're better off going with a merino wool.

Returns processed online incur a $12.75 return fee, which I frankly can't get over. A $12.75 return fee on a $98 sweater? Please. It's not like we're restocking refrigerators here, people.

Naadam ($100-400) has been hit or miss, and the quality has definitely gone down some. Do not get their $100 cashmere sweater that they egregiously promote. It's TJ maxx quality and a disservice to the brand.
