THE GREAT. was founded in spring 2015 by best friends and longtime collaborators Emily Current and Meritt Elliott. The duo previously co-founded the beloved denim brand Current/Elliott in 2008 before exiting in 2012 to pursue other projects. When they returned to fashion design, they created THE GREAT. as a collection of laid-back, Americana-inspired pieces with charming feminine details, including vintage-inspired graphic sweatshirts, chambray shirts, and floral dresses. The brand captures the casual essence of California through loose and slouchy shapes that balance tomboy sensibility with high-end designer sensibilities. Rather than following trends or runway influences, THE GREAT. draws inspiration from nostalgia and the well-worn nature of vintage pieces. Again, everything I've bought from them I still have and wear consistently so I can trust that it's timeless. If $180 sweatpants aren't in your budget (!!) skip those and go for what I love, like the pieces above that feel more special (but yes, the casual basics are strangely good).

It's a splurge, but I know historically I wear The Great's clothes for years and years (their older stuff was remarkably timeless) and will do the same with this one as well. It makes me feel happy, pulled together, and comfortable.

Very cute design, unfortunately will be returning due to extremely poor quality that doesn't justify price. The fleece is so rough and feels like it gives no warmth. Also has threads hanging. Very disappointed as I love the design.
