About the brand

Free People is an American bohemian apparel and lifestyle retail company that originated in West Philadelphia in 1970. Founded by Dick Hayne, Judy Wicks, and Scott Belair, the brand began as a small boutique selling an eclectic mix of plants, records, and clothing to the area's youthful, bohemian clientele. After becoming Urban Outfitters in 1971, the Free People name was revived in 1984 as a wholesale label and eventually evolved into the standalone retail brand known today. Free People primarily targets women aged 25-30 who embody a free-spirited, creative lifestyle. The brand is celebrated for its distinctive bohemian aesthetic, featuring flowy fabrics, intricate embroidery, fringe details, and vibrant prints inspired by art, travel, and nature. As part of the URBN portfolio alongside Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, Free People has expanded globally with over 1,400 specialty stores worldwide, offering women's clothing, accessories, shoes, intimates, swimwear, and beauty products that encourage self-expression and individuality.

Who What Wear

While it might not be the first name that comes to mind for everyone, those of us at Who What Wear cannot stop raving about how wonderful these jeans look, feel, and fit.

Crafted with a denser denim fabric, they promise a long-lasting, premium finish that feels expensive. Adding to their appeal, each pair showcases We the Free's signature branding on the back pockets, lending a distinctive touch that sets them apart.

This particular barrel jean is not only comfortable, it is very flattering and can be dressed up or down. Different colors can fit a bit differently. Ladies, I am in my 60s. These are THE jeans you need in your closet.

The more recent Free People bags have been much better quality than the older ones. My faves are the Emerson and the Augustine. They are definitely better quality than an outlet store bag.

Women's Health

The bra is, as were all the Free People items I tried for this review, very high-quality and made with a thick yet breathable fabric that offers just the right amount of compression and freedom of movement.

House of Dorough

Free People has long been known for their trendy, boho-chic looks, but their size range is limited to XS-XL/00-16. As a size 18/20, I wanted to try out some current pieces for you guys to see how (or if) they fit. Spoiler — I was pleasantly surprised!

Just a heads up, though—they do run large, so I recommend sizing down for the best fit. Honestly, this is a pair I can easily envision wearing weekly.

Tellar

In general, Free People runs large—and often intentionally oversized. Many of their tops, knitwear, and dresses are cut with relaxed proportions, so you'll commonly find that even your usual size can feel roomy.

The last couple times I've placed orders or needed to do returns with Free People, it has been an absolute mess. My last order I was sent shorts that were both the wrong sizes and colors, and one was very clearly worn before and even had crumbs in the pocket. I tried to exchange them and I haven't been refunded and they canceled the exchange.

Last month I received the We The Free Twisted Cable Cuff shirt , which was clearly used with hair on it. It's a $78 shirt. It smelled like someone sweat in it and then tried to cover it up with dove deodorant and febreze. It also had a staple sticking out of it.

I returned something last year. I shipped the return back after bot liking the quality of boots and tennis shoes I purchased. Free People said they received one of the items in the box, but could not locate the second item.
