About the brand

Levi's is an iconic American fashion brand founded in 1853 by Levi Strauss, a Bavarian immigrant who opened a dry goods company in San Francisco during the California Gold Rush. The brand's revolutionary moment came in 1873 when Strauss partnered with tailor Jacob Davis to patent copper-riveted "waist overalls" - the world's first manufactured jeans. Originally designed as durable workwear for miners, cowboys, and laborers, these garments were built to endure the harsh conditions of the American frontier. What began as functional clothing for hardworking Americans evolved into a global symbol of authentic self-expression and rebellious spirit. Levi's jeans transcended their workwear origins to become the uniform of progress, worn by everyone from rock stars and rebels to presidents and everyday individuals. Today, the brand epitomizes classic American style, rugged individuality, and timeless craftsmanship, with over 500 stores worldwide and products available in more than 100 countries.

These aren't the constricting skinny jeans of yore—the Wedgie Slim-Fit ($69, down from $98) offers a skinny silhouette while allowing you to breathe freely. They come in a variety of washes from light to black. They're just 1% lycra, so they're not super stretchy and will hold their shape.

The original and best jeans for me are Levi's 501s. They have been with me every moment of my life, and there's a reason they never go out of style. And although they're pretty unforgiving in my favorite reiteration (vintage, no stretch), I just think they always look amazing.

The Mom Edit

I highly recommend going with your true size and sticking it out the first wear or two until the jeans break in around your body. Even though they aren't 100% rigid cotton denim, the fit is still phenomenally better in the long run once it molds to your specific curves. With these, I don't have to worry about that bagged-out bum even after multiple wears between washes.

The Cut

On the body, the denim is more flexible and comfortable than, say, the 501s, but somehow it still provides that secure, cinched-in feeling I've come to know and love from Levi's. In a shocking turn of events, I even reached for these formfitting jeans over my baggy ones at the end of the month when I was on my period and having severe bloating and cramping.

so these jeans are really really good and I cannot believe I haven't tried them sooner. so I picked up two pair of the rib cage jeans they're high-waisted... they actually have really great proportions. the waist comes in really nicely. so I don't have to get a tailor no waist gap which is crazy i mean I feel like that's insane because that almost never happens with jeans.

Who What Wear

I think one reason it's so timeless is it's truly the original silhouette of the original 501 Levi's. Every new jean is based on this iconic shape and I think that is part of why it feels so classic.

I stopped by Levi's as the quality has tanked in recent years and the "denim" no longer was the weight or durability to make them a long term item or investment piece.

I purchased (online from Myer) 2 pairs of the Levi's Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans in Black Sprout, one in 26/29 and 27/29. I immediately noticed differences between the two when they arrived... The 27s feel more 'flimsy' to touch compared to the 26s, which feel more dense and rigid, despite being a similar stretch level.

Extremely disappointed with the quality of these 501s that I bought new from a Levi's store in Portugal less than 3 months ago. They've been washed twice and my usage pattern I would say is fairly average. As seen in the photos, the crotch is completely blown and all the corners of the back pockets are developing holes.

I blame Levi's as a whole for not better marketing them as well as not having any stock inside their retail spaces. I've never bought a pair of STF's from a Levi's store, while often they'll keep a ready stock of 501's in their outlets, most Levi's stores I've been too have the cheapest pairs of Lycra filled 501's in stock. This is likely why so many try and give up on 501's which I think is a shame.

My problem with Levi's is that I have seven pairs of 541s and they all fit differently. They are the exact same size and the only difference is the color. Some of them are even completely different fabrics.

Lately I've been on a Levi's hate train. I think they're hardly ever flattering, and the quality in the past few years has been dropping HARD. Plus I think for the quality they are now they're way too expensive.
